Passed exam.

Forgot to mention that I passed my firest Microsoft Exam; Installing and Configuring Windows XP. Harder than it sounds…

You are the desktop administrator for DrunkTrumpet. The company’s network consists of 500 Windows XP Professional computers that are members of the Active Directory domain named drunktrumpet.net. A new security template, named NewSec.inf, is released by the information security department. You import NewSec.inf into a security database named NewSec.sdb. You analyze the result, and you review the changes that the template makes. You examine the security policies that are defined in NewSec.inf. You discover that the settings in the NewSec.inf have not been implemented on your computer. You need to ensure that the settings in NewSec.inf overwrite the settings in your computer’s local security policy. What are two possible ways to achieve this goal? (Each correct answer presents a complete solution. Choose two.)

A. Run the Secedit /configure /db C:\NewSec.sdb command.
B. Run the Secedit refreshpolicy machine_policy command.
C. Copy the NewSec.inf to the C:\Windows\Inf folder.
D. Copy the NewSec.sdb to the C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Protect folder.
E. Use the Security Configuration and Analysis console to open NewSec.sdb and then perform a Configure option.
F. Use the Security Configuration and Analysis console to export NewSec.sdb to the Defltwk.inf security template.

Not so clever now are you :)

Fun with a sledgehammer.

Warning - these pictures are boring if you don’t have an idea of what is going on ;)

First part of renovating an old cottage; knock down everything! Ripped off all the cardboard nailed to the ceilings and walls and gutted out the fireplace to reveal the inglenook complete with original wooden door!

Mixing.

I used to mix at university on a pair of technics 1210s. Now for some reason I crave that again… To spend hours just listening to different types of music and trying to scratch. So, I’m going to take the plunge and buy a pair of decks for my own.

Shopping list:
Pair of Numark TTX1
Vestax PMC 05 Pro SL
Lots of vinyl

Who knows… maybe I might feel confident to host my mixes here! Give it a few months :)

Evolution of Dance.

…and I could do all of them. Except not in public. My 2 meter-sqaured dance floor in my room is more than enough room.

When is an exam not an exam?

When you’re told you’ve got to book it yourself. This makes me an unhappy bunny.

I’m starting my MCSE (professional certification for geeks) and was under the impression that the bootcamp that I’m on this week would include the exam as well. I was even told to bring two types of identification so that I could do the exam. I brought my passport with a 10 year old photo of me (with flat top) for nothing? Pah. Now I have to book the exam for when I want… Still, free retakes till June :D

Anyway, a week off work going over every piece of XP that I never knew existed and will never use is still a week off work!

Ow.

I’m in pain. Have been for 4 days now. Sharp twinges just in my back. Probably a strained rhomboid :( I’m getting too old for this! Gym + cold shower didn’t fix it. Any suggestions?

rhomboid

It’s at this point I remember something I wrote (not a diary, just to clear my head) about 4 months ago.

Admitting you’re a workaholic at 25 is quite hard. I still very much doubt I am, but I have no yard stick so how do I know if I am?

When I was growing up to adulthood, I saw my Dad work most hours that God sent. Which was fair enough because if you ran your own company I’m sure you’d want it to do as well as possible - quitting at 5:30pm wasn’t an option. But why do I find myself walking through my office at 10:30pm on a Friday night finding every printer and compiling a list of them complete with toner codes (I forgot to delegate it)? Because I said I’d get it done by Friday.

Does that make me a workaholic? Does being at work the next day on a Saturday only add more evidence to that? Does being at work at 1am on a Sunday make me comittable? Taking my Blackberry on the only holiday I had all year? Only taking 13 days leave in a year?

I do work for a number of companies and find myself working with people who have the same mind-set. It is competitive in the Fashion industry and it filters all the way down to the bottom. Only a select few manage to escape the drive and (you’ll hate this) the thrill!

As I work in IT sometimes it’s very easy to get the biggest of thank yous from people, but I find myself almost addicted to that. The need to please. The need to go that extra mile to help. I could point the finger at my Mum who brought me up to help, but I hear the exasperation in her voice when I call at 9/10pm on a work night from a taxi on my way home. But the sense of working this hard only makes me want it more.

I’m sure I’m not alone, but even if I am does it matter? I’m not falling apart, I can switch off easily, I sleep well and most of all I feel a sense of completion. Am I a workaholic? Maybe. Do I feel good? You betcha.

Quite clearly I’m beginning to fall apart ;)
